OQ and new hires

By Gary Cowden posted Jun 20,2013 07:39

Are your companies task categorized against experience? As the industry gets into the full changing of the guard, we are debating the need for some task to experienced based versus proof of KSA. Do any of you consider some task to require a "time in service" element? For example is a tech school grad allowed to immediately work on SCADA systems once they pass the KSAs or do they have to work with an experienced person before going solo.

Similar to Cliff, we do not require an experience element, we expect the employee to be competent (including necessary experience) before they attempt the ability part of the requirement. To reinforce this philosophy, we do not schedule OQ's at the end of classes, we allow the employee and their supervisor to collaborate on the appropriate time for the employee to demonstrate their competence in the task.

Mtng has no experience requirements beyond KSA. It is an interesting concept though
